After Elizabeth Campbell died, John Shiflett (father of Amanda) m. Eliza Via. Ira Via acted as surety. Ira and Amanda also gave statements for Eliza Shiflett's pension application on John's War of 1812 service.

Ira Howard Via first m. Sarah Ann Sandridge in 1840 and was divorced from her on 27/28 Oct 1857 (see notes below). On the 1850 census he is living with James Shifflett, age 48, (family 966) in Charlottesville. Although Ira and Amanda did not marry until Nov 1872, they are living together as husband and wife on the 1870 census and both are listed as the parents of Christopher Columbus Via when he wed Malinda Marshall in Aug 1872.
